National Agenda 2021: Reflecting America with David Hogg

Thrust into the world of activism by one of the largest school shootings in American history, Parkland survivor David Hogg has become a compelling voice of his generation. On February 14, 2018, a lone teen gunman entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and sprayed bullets from a high-powered military assault rifle. The shooter killed 17 of David’s friends, classmates and teachers. The high school senior’s call to “get over politics and get something done” immediately placed him in the national and international media spotlight.

National Agenda 2021: Reflecting America with Berny Jacques and Geston Pierre

“Be comfortable with who you are and own it confidently. It is not a sign of weakness to listen to other people’s viewpoints,” said Geston Pierre on September 22, 2021, when he joined the second event of the University of Delaware’s National Agenda 2021 speaker series. Hosted by the Center for Political Communication, the virtual program drew viewers from 10 states – including Florida, Massachusetts, and Missouri. Pierre, alongside childhood best friend Berny Jacques, offered practical tips on how to discuss divisive issues through civil dialogue.

National Agenda 2021: Reflecting America with Sarah McBride

“My interest in advocacy really stems from my earliest memories as a young person struggling with my gender identity,” said Sarah McBride, a politician, author, and community activist. “And I think even more than that, struggling with my place in this world.” On Nov. 3, 2021, the University of Delaware National Agenda Speaker Series – now in its 11th year – welcomed McBride, who represents the First State Senate District in northern Delaware.
